About her Work
Suzanne's works almost always start with a setup. She spends a lot of time making sure the subject, background, light and reflection are perfect to her eye. After choosing the final photo from multiple try outs, she picks the one she falls in love with, since she will be spending lots of hours laboring on it.
Most of Suzanne's colored pencil work is done on U-art sanded pastel paper, a rough surface that is very forgiving and can take a lot of abuse and multiple layers of colored pencil. She normally starts with the lightest areas and then shades the darkest areas with a complementary color. She then will work the middle tones with many layers. When all the details have been cleaned up, she will put the piece away and revisit it at a different time to examine it with a new eye before calling it done!
Suzanne's favorite subjects are crystal, glass and satin. She also likes to work on hair and fur. She works mostly with Prismacolor Premier and Verithin; Caran D'Ache Luminance and Pablo; and Faber Castell Polychromos.
